Pokemon - An Oddish Tale - Nathan Love

For Pokemon, an Oddish Tale, I was honored to be brought on the NL team as a CG Generalist - Model, Texturing, and Shading Artist.

Pokemon has been one of those wishlist IP projects I’ve always wanted to work on and I was thrilled to have been given an opportunity to work on such an amazing spot.

Special thanks to Anca Risca, Allison Godleski, and Jin Fang Jiang for having me onboard!

The first task I was assigned was ingesting the game models of the three main characters: Oddish, Rattata, and Raticate.
I double-checked and updated the topology of the characters to ensure they met the needs of production.

Afterward, I painted textures for the whole cast. I ended up creating at least two to three passes of the textures with varying levels of brushstrokes so that the lighting and comp team could blend between the different passes to achieve the desired level of stylization. I even created a separate version of Raticate with a ‘burnt’ face for when Oddish attacked them.
Finally I created different eyes / mouth textures and set up a shading network with set driven keys so that the textures could be key-framed and animated.
